Class Content: An art journal is a form of self-expression which incorporates colors, images, patterns, and may include many materials. Some art journals have a lot of writing, while others are purely filled with images. An art journal is a place where you can practice new art ideas and techniques and is also a place where you can express and explore personal feelings through images and writing.
In this class, Cindy Moser will share many of her art journals as examples. Participants will be given a variety of ideas, plus information on how to use various mediums and on how to personalize your Art Journal cover, should you want to do that. Actual hands-on development of your journal will be done, by doing the front inside cover and the first page of your Journal.
Participants will cover the inside of the cover of their journal by using cardstock scrapbooking paper, or any heavyweight paper available. “No matter if the front covers of my journals are later covered with paint, clay, or scrapbook paper, I still use the scrapbooking paper for the inside of the journal cover. It will give you a thicker cover and provides a good balance if the front cover bends slightly due to the clay, paint, etc.”
After that we will do a simple, but fitting, beginning journal page, using watercolors, or paints, or markers, or colored pencils. You will also need a Sharpie Black permanent pen and compass, bowl or whatever you have available to outline a circle. Any black permanent pen will work. We are going to get creative and have fun!
Cindy Moser is a Monroe County native, where she taught high school art for over 30 years; she loved teaching teenagers. Upon retirement she began offering classes in acrylics, watercolor collage and art journaling from her home studio and is now teaching on Zoom. Prior to the pandemic she offered workshops at art conventions from coast to coast as a Helping Artist for DecoArt Paints and an Ambassador for Royal Brush Company. Cindy earned an MFA at Tennessee Tech. She lives in Knoxville with her good-looking husband, who joins her in hiking and photography.
