Class Content:
In this class Kathy teaches “Floral Paintings and Glass Ornaments with Alcohol Inks”. It follows her June 17th or July 19th class “Landscape Paintings with Alcohol Inks” but can be taken as a stand-alone class. An outline of the class content from June 17th will be distributed and touched on briefly, if need be, with additional notes on floral paintings and do’s and don’ts when creating glass ornaments.
Kathy will bring sample paintings to show various techniques, and will do a few demos during the day. Set-ups of needed equipment for each individual in the class will be provided. Other equipment used to create different effects, such as an air compressor, will be available for you to try. There will be a small selection of colors at each individual’s desk as well as over a 100 additional colors you may select from her supply of inks to personalize your work. There will be a color chart to facilitate choosing colors that appeal to you.
We will be completing 2 to 3 paintings in a range of sizes which, if time allows, will be coated with several coats of spray varnish to protect and preserve your artwork.
Each student will also complete a glass ornament.
Bring a lunch and drinks, dessert will be provided.
Supply List: All essential supplies will be provided. Kathy will have a selection of inexpensive “Clip Art Glass Frames,” to purchase should you like your artwork well enough that you want to hang it on your wall! These will be available at wholesale cost and can be purchased at class completion.
Biography: I’ve been self-employed for most of my working career and have oil painted for about 45 of them. When Covid made its entrance, I closed my Townsend bed and breakfast for a couple of months and decided to try something new. In fifty-eight days I wove twenty-four baskets and finished seven oil paintings. Then I decided to give my shoulder a rest from both weaving and wielding a long brush and started creating alcohol ink paintings. When my B&B opened back up and I quickly sold the artwork I had created, I sold the B&B and started a new full time career! What I love about alcohol inks is the vibrancy of the color and the utter spontaneity. For the most part I rarely use a brush. Along with selling my artwork on my website, I have fourteen shows scheduled this year and am currently building an art gallery, Gracehill Fine Art and Basketry, in Townsend, TN.
I have been honored with the following recognition and awards:
- 2021, Award of Merit, Arrowmont’s Sevier County 20th Biennial Art Exhibition
- 2022, Inclusion into Arts in the Airport, Arts Cultural Alliance
- 2022, Inclusion Dogwood to Kudzu, Handweavers Guild of America Convergence Show Knoxville
- 2022, Award of Merit, TN Craft, 51st Annual Spring Fair, Emerging Makers Tent
