Workshop Content: Learn how to create a painting using a painting knife from start to finish! Knife painting requires the artist to “let go” of details. Thick application of paint resulting in a heavily textured surface is known as impasto painting. We’ll explore the ways that impasto texture affects light and shadow on the surface of your painting. Acrylic paints lend themselves to knife paintings because they dry quickly and prevent accidental muddying of colors, keeping them bright and clear.
The painting will be done in stages that Terry will demonstrate. Individual instruction will be provided as needed. Working from a reference photo you’ll create an under painting, and then learn to apply the paint using various painting knives.
Supply List: All materials, including canvas, paint and painting knives will be supplied by the instructor. Terry also supplies incidentals, like paper towels, water containers etc. also.
Everyone will complete a 16″x20″ canvas, (supplied) during the two days. We’re looking forward to an exciting two days of creativity!
