210722 Lampworking Glass Demonstration

Art Guild of Tellico Village

Date: Thursday, July 22, 2021
Time: 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Cost: Free
Location: Tugaloo Pavillion

Lampworking is a type of glasswork in which a torch is used to melt the glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing and shaping with tools and hand movements. This glass making technique is used to create glass sculpture and artwork, beads, jewelry, ornaments, and small figurines.

Local artist Jo Marie Brotherton will demonstrate how she creates beads and sculptural flowers using a torch (oxygen, gas mix),  rods of colorful glass and some simple tools. She will discuss the mysteries of lampworking.

Passionate about glass making, Jo Marie graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1980 with a degree in art education.  She subsequently worked at Knox Glass in their art department doing stained glass windows for the World’s Fair, eventually becoming Vice-President overseeing projects including design, presentation, ordering of materials, fabrication and installation.  Retired in 2000 and currently President of the Tennessee chapter of International Society of Glass Beadmakers.

Join us on July 22nd at 11 am  at Tugaloo Pavilion for this very special demonstration!
