Six AGTV Members Garner Awards at Oak Ridge

The Oak Ridge Open Show 2022 saw six of our members honored in prize categories. Congratulations to all, as well as to entrants whose work was juried in.

Two-Dimensional Award of Merit:
Chattanooga Sunset by Kathyrn Payne 

Anne K & John Moore Memorial Award for excellence in Transparent Watercolor: 
Lionheart by Kate Aubrey

Jane Johnson Memorial Award for excellence in any media that depicts musical references, rhythm, cadence or flow:

Hugh Bailey Memorial Award for excellence in any medium that displays wit and whimsy:

Two AGTV Members Win Top Awards!

The Tennessee Watercolor Society’s  Biennial Juried Exhibit opened May 18, 2022 in Chattanooga. Sixty artists from across Tennessee were juried into the show from 192 submissions, including the following AGTV Members: Kate Aubrey, Vicki Brandt, Lil Clinard, Lee Edge, Linda Johnson, Judy Lavoie, Kate McCullough, Nora Merritt, Jean Porter, and Laurie Szivagyi.

We are pleased to announce TWO of AGTV’s members won top honors from this statewide organization:

  • Linda Johnson‘s ISAIAH 40:8 was awarded the $1,200 Purchase Award from Jerry’s Artarama 
  • Kate Aubrey‘s  PERSEPHONE won an $800 Cash Award in honor of Founder Mary Britten Lynch

When Love and Duty Call

This is a recent commission done by Laurie Szilvagyi. It is a take off of Grant Woods American Gothic and is titled “When Love and Duty Call”.

Gentleman Jack

Laurie recently received notice that her painting, Gentleman Jack, was juried into the International Guild of Realism’s (IGOR) Spring Exhibit. IGOR includes artists from over 15 countries represented in the Spring Salon Final Jury.  Artists from Canada, England, Norway, USA, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, South Africa, Russia, Ukraine, Holland, Philippines, Mexico, Greece, Australia, France, Spain, Hong Kong and India are included in the exhibition.   These artists represent a diversity of media including Acrylic, Watercolor, Oil, Soft Pastel, Colored Pencil, Gouache, Graphite, Pastel, Ink, Tempera and Scratchboard.

The IGOR Spring Exhibit will open March 20, 2021. More information is available on the IGOR website.

Dennis Sabo Photography awarded Best of Houzz 2023 for Customer Service

Dennis Sabo Photography has won “Best of Customer Service for 2023 on Houzz.com the leading platform for home remodeling and design.

Dennis Sabo Photography juried into the Healing Power of Art inspired by Nature Exhibition

2023 for Dennis Sabo Photography is starting off nicely. One of his favorite compositions from Iceland is included in the Manhattan Arts International “The Healing Power of Nature” online exhibition.

Nature and healing compositions are important components of Dennis’ photographic artwork.

Sabo’s “Autumn in Tennessee” exhibit in November

Autumn Quietude

Dennis Sabo photographic artwork will be featured during the month of November at the “Art Market Gallery”, 422 S Gay St (next to Downtown Grill & Brewery) in downtown Knoxville.

Both painterly and emotionally charged Sabo photographic artwork is reminiscent of how the impressionists recorded light. His fine art natural world abstracts and landscapes are often sought out by home decor and interior designers and has been included in solo and group art gallery exhibitions, commercial installations and private home collections throughout the United States and internationally.

Arts in the Airport Spring 2022 Exhibition

Ethereal Tarn

Dennis Sabo’s multi-exposure art piece from Acadia National Park, Maine, “Ethereal Tarn” was juried into the “Arts in the Airport Spring 2022 Exhibition”, Knoxville, Tennessee. This year the judge, Althea Murphy-Price, received 498 entries from 133 artists throughout the region, and 41 pieces from 36 artists have been selected for the show.

“Arts in the Airport Spring 2022 Exhibition” will be at the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (McGhee Tyson Airport) from April 28th through October.

If you’re coming into Knoxville or leaving through the airport, please check out this exhibit as it is always wonderfully presented.

National Juried Exhibition of 2022

Monet’s Dream II

Dennis Sabo’s art piece, “Monet’s Dream II” was selected into the 2022 National Juried Exhibition, Knoxville, Tennessee. This year the judge, Tommie Rush, received 335 submissions from 93 artists throughout the region and 50 art works were selected.

Says Dennis about his art work, “My painterly photographs are reminiscent of how the impressionists recorded light. However my photography of the natural world captures light and its effect on the landscape with a contemporary vibrancy and energy.”

The National Juried Exhibition will be at the Emporium Center for Arts and Culture, 100 South Gay Street, Knoxville, TN., 37902  from February 4th  to  February 26th. The Opening Reception will be on Friday, February 4st from 5:00-9:00 PM and awards at 6:00 PM. Additional information can be found at http://www.theemporiumcenter.com/.

Dennis Sabo – The Art of Seeing

Dennis has announced his recently completed video, “The Art of Seeing – The Photographic Art of Dennis Sabo” which is now appearing on Vimeo, YouTube, and Tellico TV.

“The 2020 Art of Seeing video showcases my journey as an artist as well as comments from collectors along with examples of some of my favorite photography.”

International Scratchboard Society

Judy’s scratchboard “Perfectionist” was awarded “Award of Excellence” in the Open Division of the 11th Annual Exhibition of the International Scratchboard Society (ISSA), held in December 2022 at the Art Center Manatee in Bradenton, Florida. The society includes about 270 members from 17 countries, and the scratchboard work is incredible. Judy’s highly detailed 3”x5” scratchboard “How Sweet It Is” was also juried into this prestigious show along with about 100 other works.

Oak Ridge Art Center

“The Bearded Fiddler,” Judy’s colorful watercolor, was an award-winner in the 54th Annual Open Show of the Oak Ridge (TN) Art Center, winning the “Jane Johnson Award, for excellence in any medium that depicts musical references.” Juror Richard Mills gave it the following critique: “Beautifully painted. Beautiful figurative watercolor with strong color. Excellent work…”

Arts in the Airport

“Breeding Plumage,” a scratchboard with inks, has been accepted for the Arts In The Airport exhibition at McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, TN. Juror Terri Jordan, curator of the Customs House Museum in Clarksville TN, chose 44 from 566 entries from artists in 13 East Tennessee counties, including a wide variety of 2- and 3-dimensional media. The exhibit will run through April 2023.

Anthology II at the Emporium

Ted Richards’ art will be featured at the Emporium in Knoxville November 4-22, 2022. The opening reception is November 4 from 5-9 PM.

Metamorphosis IV: Recycle to Art

 Ted was awarded Honorable Mention at the Oak Ridge Art Center Open Show 2021 for my painting “Iron Workers”.

Note: The chess pieces are from a manufacturing plant that uses induction molding.  These pieces are worn out and would have been discarded.

Note: This piece is made from canvas keys.  What are canvas keys?  They are the triangle wedges that come with most pre-stretched canvases.

Arts in the Airport

Ted Richards recently received notice that his painting, Linemen’s Rodeo, was juried into the Arts in the Airport Spring 2021 exhibition.  There were 484 entries from 121 artist, and 41 pieces were selected for the show.  Opening reception is on April 20. 2021 and runs to October 2021 (end date TBA).

Muriel is among some Art Guild members who have been juried into the 2021 Open Show of the Oak Ridge Art Center. The exhibition is from October 2 – November 27, 2021.

Tulips

Muriel Fawcett’s “Tulips” was juried into the Knoxville Arts and Cultural Alliance’s No Bigger Than a Breadbox exhibition. 67 pieces were selected out of 384 entries, for the show at the Emporium. The exhibit ends April 30.

Visual Poetry

Jack has submitted both a fine art print and an original poem for an exhibition at the Oak Ridge Arts Center.  The works are for their “Visual Poetry” exhibition slated for May 15 through July 3.  Artists have to submit a visual art piece PLUS a related poem.  The poem does not have to be written by the creator of the visual art.  

Jack submitted an original poem (his first since high school) along with his fine art photography.  Read Jack’s poem, Life’s Dreams that was submitted along with this impressionistic photograph.

Jack has been accepted as a juried member of the ART MARKET in Knoxville, TN. For those not familiar with the ART MARKET, it is, in their words … “the premier art gallery in Knoxville, TN”. On their website, they describe the Art Market Gallery as “a cooperative of more than sixty juried-in East Tennessee artists dedicated to providing a vibrant marketplace for original art and fine crafts.”
