Class Content: You’ll be making a southern longleaf pine needle basket. You’ll use the simple or spiral stitch. You’ll learn how to start a basket, to wrap a coil to add color, how to add a bead, and how to add thread when you run out. You’ll also learn that you can leave caps on some of the pine needle shafts to add texture to your basket if you desire. Depending on how fast you weave most of you will finish the basket in class.
She’d like to emphasize it’s not a race, and how your basket looks is more important. If you still have an hour or so of weaving to finish, she can stay longer, or you will know how to finish it with a sewing needle you have at home!
If you have pieces of “what nots” or buttons or whatever at home that you want to see if you can weave in, bring them, like that lamb’s wool she used on the one basket. If you go to her website and look, you’ll see some of the different things she has incorporated.
Provided: Dessert
A class material fee of $58 is included in the price of the $118 class. A porcelain center, 8oz southern longleaf pine needles dyed or a natural color conditioned in a glycerin bath, waxed linen, artificial sinew, jewelry twine, and beads are all provided. How many beads depend on what you pick out. Some gemstones are 10 times the price of glass or wooden beads. These are your supplies to make the basket.
She will also provide different-sized sewing needles, clips, and gauges that stay with the instructor. She’ll have a few extra pairs of scissors and pliers she’ll bring with her. She’ll have an assortment of 10 different colors of porcelain centers, complimentary colored pine needles and beads. These kits are color coordinated.
