Class Content: Hands on Introduction to Watercolor Class; BEFORE YOU BUY SUPPLIES… Is this medium right for you???
Beginning Watercolor: you will be learning about the tools used to create watercolor paintings along with techniques to make it easy to decide if this is a medium you would like to continue with. Just show up… no need to bring any supplies!
This 1-day class will concentrate on understanding the tools in watercolor so you will be able to later sit back and just enjoy the painting process. We are going to learn about watercolor brushes, papers, paints, techniques, supplies and so much more. You will be creating 2 paintings before you need to go out and buy any supplies, so you can see if this is the medium for you.
Learning: I love watercolors! I would love to help you fall in love with it too by answering any questions you have and teaching you knowledge about the supplies and techniques to launch you into this medium. Watercolors are fast, fun and unique. They can be enjoyed so much more if one is able to simplify all its complexities and implement the right tools so it can be user-friendly. This class will cover such things as: What are the differences in brushes? What are different types of watercolor paper? What the difference is between student and professional grade paints, brushes and paper? Is it worth getting the expensive stuff? What is the difference between tube paints and pans? Why is there a white in most student grade paint sets? I see so many “extra” watercolor supplies in the art store many times we get overwhelmed or wonder what we really need? How do I create white on in my watercolor painting? In the class we will be answering questions like these and so much more; I’m excited to teach you what I have learned.
Practice: We will practice transferring images onto watercolor paper. By this, we will be learning how to properly do this and get hands-on in the process. We will go over beginning watercolor techniques along with skills that will carry you on to the next level. You will be practicing these techniques and getting more familiar with how to use watercolors to achieve different goals.
Lunch – We will take a break for lunch, please bring your lunch.
Painting: After lunch, we will be using our transferred drawing and creating a watercolor. I almost always work on two or more watercolor paintings at the same time, so I will teach you why and how as we create a second piece of art to practice more of the skills we learned from the morning. Take Home:
You will be taking home…
(1) The knowledge of how and what supplies you will need to start your watercolor journey
(2) The techniques that can be used with the supplies to achieve what you want with watercolors
(3) Two paintings that begin you on this new journey of a fun medium that can be used just about anywhere
Supply List: Come as you are… No supplies needed for this class! If you have watercolor supplies you would like to use or have questions about them you are welcome to bring them.
