Workshop Content: Learn how to create a painting using a painting knife from start to finish! Knife painting requires the artist to “let go” of details. Thick application of paint resulting in a heavily textured surface known as impasto painting. We’ll explore the ways that impasto texture affects lights and shadow on the surface of your painting. Acrylic paints lend themselves to knife paintings because they dry quickly and prevent accidental muddying of colors, keeping them bright and clear.
The painting will be done in stages that Terry will demonstrate. Individual instruction will be provided as needed. Working from a reference photo you’ll create an under painting, and then learn to apply the paint using various painting knives.
Supply List: No personal supplies are needed – Artist is providing all materials and supplies.
Students will be provided with all supplies and materials, these include all paint, a16x20′ canvas, 3 metal painting knives, disposable pallet, table easels, water containers and paper towels.
The only thing enrolled artists should bring to class is their courage!
