Class Content: In this class you will learn the basics for making coiled baskets from yarn and paracord. By the end of the class, you will have completed your first coiled basket. My goal is not to teach you how to copy what I do, but to give you the skills and knowledge to make this craft your own by using the skills I teach you with your creativity and imagination.
In the first session you will learn how to select a yarn that will work well for a coiled basket and will start the base of an oval basket. Your “homework” will be to finish the base of your basket before the next session.
In the second session you will learn how to build the sides and how to shape them. We will discuss how to make very symmetrical basket as well as how to make asymmetrical baskets. Your “homework” will be to finish the sides of your basket before the next session.
In the final session you will learn how to embellish your basket with a simple coil and how to end the coil. We will discuss how to begin a round basket and other embellishment techniques, as well as how to create lids for your baskets.
I will provide my contact email at the beginning of the class so that you can contact me between sessions if you have any questions about your “homework.” I also provide a handout with tips and tricks, and references including some of my preferred yarn suppliers.
I will provide all supplies, including enough paracord to make a medium sized basket. To ensure that the yarn you use works well for a coiled basket, I will bring a large selection of yarn for you to choose from.
