Class Content: Have you ever wanted to try mixed media? Collage is a great place to start—the creative possibilities are endless! In this class you will construct your own unique mixed media pieces in two steps. First, you’ll create an abstract collage, using a variety of papers, pencils, and acrylic paint. This will get the creative juices flowing by requiring you to think about color, shape, texture, composition and mark-making. Next, you’ll learn how to transfer your own black & white images over the surface of your collages, using acrylic as the transfer medium. This step will transform your collage pieces into something truly personal and special. Come along, learn something new, and have some fun!
Supply List: All supplies included (but see attached supply list)
Biography: My background is in Science (Chemistry and Geology), but I always held a side interest in art, taking a variety of workshops and classes in different media over the years. In 2015, I was able to take the plunge into art full-time, studying for two years with the Open College of the Arts (based in the UK) before being juried in as a member of the Art Market Gallery in Knoxville in late 2017. My work has been accepted into a number of juried exhibitions in the Knoxville area, including the Arts & Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition, Arts in the Airport at McGhee Tyson Airport, The District Gallery’s “The Big Tiny Show” Exhibition, the Arts & Culture Alliance’s “No Bigger than a Breadbox” Exhibition, and the Tennessee Valley Universalist Unitarian Church (TVUUC) Gallery. I have also exhibited works locally in Knoxville at the Marble Alley Lofts, the Emporium Gallery, the Mayor’s offices, and Post Modern Spirits, and became a juried member of the Foothills Craft Guild in 2023.
