Class Content: This will be a little Christmas in August! The Nuno felting process is simply wet felting with wool and fabric. We encourage the wool fibers to migrate through the silk fabric. We are going to combine a lovely silk habotai with fine merino wool, and we will create an elegant, vibrant stocking. You will learn how to work with silk habotai, merino wool, and natural sheep’s locks. We will felt over a resist to form the stocking. Students will complete one stocking and will leave with the knowledge of how to create nuno felted items. I will provide all materials you need, but you will bring a few items such as towels. It is a wet felting method, so wear comfortable clothing.
Supply List:
- 1 old bath towel
- 3 old dish towels/hand towels
- 1 small bowl (1 quart)
- ball brause if you have one
- sharp scissors: both small and large
- bring a lunch
Biography: I have been teaching felting classes for two years. I have focused on teaching the wet felting process to create structural shapes and 2D designs. During the last 10 years, I have felted vessels, garments, and sculptures. Finding and using fabrics to incorporate into the felting process is a small obsession of mine. I have been inspired by the art of Fiona Duthie for many years, and I incorporate many of her techniques into my own projects.
