Class Content: Take mosaics to a new “level”, literally, by building up your substrate base to create more realistic designs. Having just returned from a series of mosaic workshops, our instructor, Susan Watson will share this exciting method. Students will learn to prepare a 3-D canvas, tint thin set, cut glass and tile into mosaic pieces and set them into the final masterpiece. This is a great new skill to add dimension to your artwork. Students will work on 8”x8” substrates and hopefully finish the day of the class. If not, enough materials to complete it will be supplied to take home.
Supply List: All materials are included in the class fee. Students can bring along any materials that they might wish to use in their mosaic and an apron.
Biography: Susan Watson has been a traditional stained glass artist for over 30 years. Back in 1988, Susan operated a shop at Dollywood where she was a Master Craftsman. There she demonstrated glass cutting and fabrication to the theme parks guests and produced glass items for sale.
About 20 years ago Susan Watson started creating glass mosaics and has studied multiple styles of mosaic making from teachers around the world. She enjoys sharing this knowledge with class participants. “My favorite thing about the workshop is seeing how each artist uses the skills they’ve learned in their own special way,” says Susan.
