Workshop Content: We will be making miniature dioramas within deep frames. A diorama is a three-dimensional, miniature scene from a historical, fictional, or natural subject using models and various materials.
This class is for beginners and intermediate learners of diorama making.
You will learn to craft miniature dioramas from start to finish. I will supply all sorts of fun objects that can be remade into miniature furniture, landscaping, people, etc. I will also bring clay for anyone who wants to learn how to make or enhance any of their miniatures with it.
The creation is only as limited as your imagination. This class will teach how to repurpose, reimagine, and rethink.
Supply List: Instructor will provide all supplies
Biography: My artist dreams started when I had my nervous breakdown and subsequent 3-month hospitalization at Blount Memorial Hospital at the end of 1990. At the time, I was raising two very young children and was married. I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD and a brain injury due to the physical effects of childhood family trauma.
While in the hospital, several positive experiences led me to where I am today. I was able to define my life goals, which included going to college. I now have a master’s degree in Speech Communication. Before, I had thought that an impossibility. I went to UTK and the Universita di Urbino, in Italy. I learned I am stronger than I had previously thought. I found that I have artistic talent and that it is okay to lean into it.
I also learned that it was okay to want things for myself, including travel. Since then, I have traveled extensively and visited some of the most famous museums in the world. I have also visited and worked at many artist communities around the world. My art is still hung in many of these communities, including: Oaxaca, Mexico; San Luis Obispo, California; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Lazio, Italy; Bronx, NYC; Seattle, Washington; Managua, Nicaragua. Every country I have visited has taught me that my love for all things art is always in my heart.
I have been working consistently on my current series, “Fairy Tales Reimagined,” where I reinvent known stories into new tales using the inner feelings of one or more of the characters. I have been able to explore a lot of emotions during this series and have loved all of it. If anyone is interested in a comprehensive list of places where I have shown my art and been showcased, please send me a message and I will get that to you.
