Class Content: Plaster Relief Holiday Theme #2 – great Gift! Supplies INCLUDED!
Last year’s class was such a success students have asked to do it again! I will have new molds so you can make either similar or different pieces. One of last year’s students is making several of these as gifts. What a GREAT IDEA for unique decor at Christmas time. You can arrange the elements differently so each piece is new and unique!
You will LOVE playing in 3D with plaster! This class is a beginner introduction to the world of Plaster Relief. I have pre-made elements from molds so you do not have to carve the detail into anything, but just arrange the pieces to your liking and I will show you how to create some background elements if you like.
Every piece is different!
You will create 2 pieces in this class: Both are holiday themed and would make a great gift for that hard to shop for friend! You will create a 11×14 Christmas panel and a 8×8 smaller panel. Plaster is a very fun media to work with and grants exceptional results.
In this beginner class, the hard part has been pre-done for you so you can walk away with a very nice 3d holiday themed piece of art that will WOW your friends!
***ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED! Just bring yourself, your lunch and an apron or clothes that can get messy.
I will Demonstrate each step and explain it as I go and then break so you can work on that step. I walk around and assist each student as needed. We will break for lunch around noon but will stay in the class for lunch so we can chat and answer questions so PACK A LUNCH :).
I will have your panels prepared and dozens of pre-made molded themed pieces so you can choose your favorites and position them as you like. Everyone’s piece will be unique and special since you choose which pieces you want and where to position them. I will have many more elements than you see in the class image as well so you can create your own Christmas world. At the end of class, we will glaze them so you can go home with finished pieces. I will have some sparkle this time as well if you want to add the effect of snow!
You Will Learn:
- How to prepare a surface for attaching plaster molded pieces (yours will be prepared in advance for time constraints)
- Learn to use molds to make 3d elements – we will make some in class so you can see how to do it first hand
- How to mix your plaster to different density for different purposes
- How to Lay down a layer of plaster on your panel and use tools to give different impressions and backgrounds
- How to attach pre-made plaster elements to your panel
- How to use cake decorating tips to add elements to your panel
- How to glaze your finished piece.
PLEASE PACK A LUNCH… Our lunch break will be short so we can finish our work in one day.
Supply List: Just pack a lunch and wear either an apron or something that can get a little dirty. Everything else is included!
Biography: Hi! I’m Carol Robin King, an artist and teacher with a lifelong love of art. My journey began raised as the daughter of missionaries in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where as early as the age of 3 my mom said art was the only thing that could get me to sit still!
In Argentina, art is heavily interwoven into school curriculum, so it was the perfect place to fuel my creative spark. After three years at a professional art school there, I moved to the U.S. for college and continued to find ways to make art a part of my world including painting portraits for a little extra cash.
Teaching has always been close to my heart. I’ve been sharing my passion for painting for over 20 years, starting out teaching kids in homeschool co-ops. Now I’m lucky enough to teach in-person classes at seven different locations, including a gallery, local art store and a College Lifelong Learning program.
My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe that art should be fun and stress-free. I’m a patient and encouraging teacher who wants everyone to feel confident and relaxed in their art journey. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to explore new techniques, My mission is to guide you step by step in a friendly, supportive environment.
No matter your experience level, you’re welcome in my classes—and I can’t wait to help you discover your Inner Artist!
