Workshop Content: My favorite new medium, an old medium that is having a significant resurgence in popularity with artists is gouache. It paints on all kinds of paper, it paints like oil or watercolor, or both. To use it you don’t need a lot of supplies. It is opaque watercolor. It has a few quirks, so let’s get together and learn how to paint with it and make some beautiful paintings. I like it for plein air painting because it does not require a lot of supplies.
Supply List:
- 3 or 4 of your favorite reference photos that you would like to paint. If you can print them on 8 ½” x 11” copy paper in black and white that would be fantastic.
- Bring a sheet or two of watercolor paper, mixed media paper, or any surface on which you would like to paint.
- Bring a variety of brushes, flats and rounds; synthetic is good it holds paint better.
- Bring 2 water containers, paper towels, pencil (I like a mechanical pencil best), eraser, and tape.
- You will need some kind of ground or surface to tape your paper.
- For the gouache, you can bring tubes of gouache, pan paint gouache, or you can bring watercolor and a tube of white gouache. You will find you will use a lot of white, so if you can, bring a tube. Don’t bring acrylic gouache.
Biography: Donna is a watercolor artist who loves to paint plein air landscapes, flowers, people and tell stories with her paintings. She works part time as a counselor and finds painting to be her sanctuary and happy place that brings great contentment.
