Class Content: You will LOVE playing in 3D with plaster and it makes a great, unique decor piece or gift! Using precast molds and provided tools, you will create 3 pieces similar to the viewed pieces. You can use them as guidelines and I can help you make changes to make it your own. The flowers are precast pieces that I will have ready for you so you do not have to shape those by hand.
We will attach the precast flowers, you will learn how to mold and shape the lose plaster mix- into anything you desire. I will have everything you need and show you how to use tools to make it simple. I will have some stencils to use as well for background texturing. Every piece is different!
You will create 3 pieces in this class: 1- 12×18 panel, 1- 11×14 panel and 1- 8×8 panel.
This class will teach you the techniques so that if you want to do a larger version of this on your home wall, you will be able to do it!
I will demonstrate each step, explain the basics, and give you time to work. I walk around and assist each student as needed. We will break for lunch around noon but will stay in the class for lunch so we can chat and answer questions.
I will have your panels prepared although you will do the third smaller one yourself so you learn the technique.
You Will Learn:
- How to prepare a surface for receiving the plaster mix
- Learn how to mix the plaster to the right consistency
- How to add hanging wire to your panel
- How to pour molds and attach your molds to your project
- How to lay down a layer of plaster on your panel and use tools to texture or smooth it
- How to color or glaze your finished piece
- The techniques to prepare you to do larger versions if desired.
PLEASE PACK A LUNCH… Our lunch break will be short so we can finish our work each day.
Supply List: ***ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED! Just bring yourself, your lunch and an apron or clothes that can get messy.
Biography: Tennessee artist Carol Robin King was born and raised in Argentina where she discovered her love for drawing at the tender age of 3. At 13, Carol advanced from drawing to painting with oils and acrylics. While in Argentina, she attended 3 years of professional Art School. She loves continuing to learn and perfect her techniques through workshops and online classes. Art has always been a part of Carol’s life. She made extra money selling paintings as a child and painting portraits in college. Throughout the last 30 years, she has had the privilege of teaching art classes for children, teens, and adults. Carol also captures attention with her 3D wall sculptures. Working with cast stone and gypsum, these dimensional bas relief works not only catch the eye but awaken the senses as the shapes emerge – revealed by reflected light.
“Quiet times, pleasant memories and peaceful places are what I strive to capture in my art to bring the viewer a moment of peace in a hectic day or a pleasant memory to lift their spirit.” Current projects are providing online video Watercolor lessons, teaching acrylic online and in person classes around the Knoxville area. Carol’s work can be seen at various locations around Knoxville and at the Townsend Art Center in Townsend, TN.
