Class Content: This workshop focuses on understanding and artistically interpreting waves. Participants will explore color, shadow, reflection and movement while learning how to translate the energy and beauty of waves into paint. Using multiple photos as primary references, the instructor will provide demonstrations of both calm and crashing waves. Loads of individual guidance and tips will be given as participants complete two wave paintings of their own.
Supply List:
- Paint: Watercolor or acrylic – a limited palette works best. If you are using watercolor, you may wish to bring frisket or resist for white areas or use white gouache.
- Paper, panel or canvas: at least 2. I find a backer board helpful to tilt the painting to create runs.
- Brushes: 2- or 3-inch hake or mop brush for washes and #8 flat and #10 round with a sharp point.
- Palette or tray, pencil and notepad, water container, paper towels or rags.
- You may also want to bring an apron and gloves — we will do some finger painting!
- Bring any of your materials you enjoy using.
