Biography: Glenda Bowles is a native Tennessean painter relates to explorations of nature, primarily through the rich, organic quality of oil and watercolor paint in her pauntingings. Glenda’s artistic foundation began at the University of Tennessee, where she earned a BFA, gaining a deep understanding of Art History and a wide range of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, graphite, and oils. She furthered her education with a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, which fueled a passion for teaching. She has successfully taught all levels, from elementary school to AP high school courses as well as adult learning, finding immense joy in helping others express themselves through visual art. Her recent time living in the Middle East was a transformative period. The stark brown colors of the desert intensified her appreciation for the vibrant palette and lush landscapes of her Tennessee home. This experience now drives her work. Glenda’s paintings seek to capture and portray God’s creation—the inherent beauty of the organic world—intending to fill the “void” of bare walls and bring the spirit of nature indoors.

Class Content: Gelli Plate printing is a versatile and fun way to create unique prints that can either stand on their own, or be used in mixed media collage artwork. Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to come and try their hands at creating their own unique mixed media art, using gelli plate printing as the primary tool. Along the way, we’ll learn the basics of using the gelli plate to create background and texture prints, as well as color-mixing and collage techniques. Then we’ll use the prints (along with other collage material) to assemble the final mixed media pieces.

Supply List: All materials will be provided, including a variety of collage papers. You will have the use of a gelli plate during the workshop (along with all the assessories and paper you need to make prints), acrylic paints, acrylic mediums for adhering collage to the surfaces, substrates for your final pieces (e.g., canvas or board), paint brushes, etc.

You are encouraged to bring along any additional collage material that appeals to you personally. This can be any type of paper (magazine papers, painted papers, tissue papers, text or images from old books, cut-outs, maps, etc., etc.). The more material you have, the more choices you will have when it comes time to assemble your final pieces.

I suggest you also bring along an apron or something to protect your clothing. Acrylic is unforgiving if you get it on your clothes!

We will have a short lunch break, so please bring your lunch along, too.

Biography: Hi! I’m Carol Robin King, an artist and teacher with a lifelong love of art. My journey began raised as the daughter of missionaries in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where as early as the age of 3 my mom said art was the only thing that could get me to sit still!

In Argentina, art is heavily interwoven into school curriculum, so it was the perfect place to fuel my creative spark. After three years at a professional art school there, I moved to the U.S. for college and continued to find ways to make art a part of my world including painting portraits for a little extra cash.

Teaching has always been close to my heart. I’ve been sharing my passion for painting for over 20 years, starting out teaching kids in homeschool co-ops. Now I’m lucky enough to teach in-person classes at seven different locations, including a gallery, local art store and a College Lifelong Learning program.

My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe that art should be fun and stress-free. I’m a patient and encouraging teacher who wants everyone to feel confident and relaxed in their art journey. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to explore new techniques, My mission is to guide you step by step in a friendly, supportive environment.

No matter your experience level, you’re welcome in my classes—and I can’t wait to help you discover your Inner Artist!
