Class Content: Discover the magic of using this specialized Plaster and premolded pieces to create your Botanical Relief. You will have one 16×20 Botanical to make plus we will make thick plaques that you will create by pressing anything you wish into clay and using it to cast the plaster. You get to take the clay home and make more stuff! All supplies are provided and I have all the tools for you to borrow. The images are guidelines but you can move things around and make it your own. The flowers are precast pieces that I will have ready for you so you do not have to shape those by hand.
We will attach the precast flowers and fill in the edges so it looks like the plants just rose up out of stone. Every piece is different!
You will create 2 pieces in this class: 1- 16×20 panel, and 1- 8×8 thicker panel, perfect for standing on a bookshelf.
This class will teach you the techniques so that if you want to do a larger version, you will be able to do it!
I will demonstrate each step, explain the basics, and give you time to work. I walk around and assist each student as needed. We will break for lunch around noon but will stay in the class for lunch so we can chat and answer questions.
You Will Learn:
- How to use pre-cast plaster botanicals and attach them to your board
- How to make Clay imprint mold from anything you have around the house and pour plaster to make great reliefs
- How to pour molds for additional elements
- How to lay down a layer of plaster on your panel and use tools to texture or smooth it
- How to color or glaze your finished piece
- The techniques to prepare you to do larger versions if desired.

Biography: I’m Carol Robin King, an artist and teacher with a lifelong love of art. My journey began raised as the daughter of missionaries in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where as early as the age of 3 my mom said art was the only thing that could get me to sit still!
In Argentina, art is heavily interwoven into school curriculum, so it was the perfect place to fuel my creative spark. After three years at a professional art school there, I moved to the U.S. for college and continued to find ways to make art a part of my world including painting portraits for a little extra cash.
Teaching has always been close to my heart. I’ve been sharing my passion for painting for over 20 years, starting out teaching kids in homeschool co-ops. Now I’m lucky enough to teach in-person classes at seven different locations, including a gallery, local art store and a College Lifelong Learning program.
My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe that art should be fun and stress-free. I’m a patient and encouraging teacher who wants everyone to feel confident and relaxed in their art journey. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to explore new techniques, My mission is to guide you step by step in a friendly, supportive environment.
