Class Content: We will make a wool felted vessel that is inspired by the forest floor! Appropriate for beginners to intermediate level. You will enjoy wet felting over a resist to create the 3D hollow form of the vessel. You will incorporate surface design elements, including the super fun curly sheep locks, to represent the forest flora. All materials are supplied for you, although you will bring a few towels (see the list in supply list). In one photo above, you may see two other vessels: one inspired by water and one inspired by stones. We will be concentrating on the forest vessel in this class, but the techniques you learn will apply to any vessel. I will provide you with instructions to create the other vessels at home.
Supply List:
- 2 old bath towels
- 5 old dish towels
- 2 pillowcases or 10 cloth napkins
- small bowl (1 quart)
Biography: I have been felting for 10 years and teaching felting for 3 years. I am a member of the International Feltmakers Association, and I’m the current IFA Editorial Coordinator of the Felt Matters magazine. I do both needle felting and wet felting and I love working with all the materials I can get my hands on. I have made garments, bags, lighted objects, sculpted pumpkins, and vessels–all from the wonderful wool from sheep. Felting is not the most common art form, so I love to teach classes in Tellico and share the felting world with all who are interested.

Class Content: Dragonflies are symbolic of transition and change. You are invited to change things up a bit by pairing Zentangle with different pens as well as mixed media techniques and materials to create a lovely composition on a traditional surface as well as a translucent background. We will focus on the Zentangle “embedded letters” technique, but instead of letters, our projects will incorporate the dragonfly as a focal point–it could be stamped, stenciled, embossed or collaged… you choose! A glass-backed frame is included with the class so that light can travel through your translucent piece as it would through the delicate wings of a dragonfly. Color might be incorporated into your creation if you wish, as a subtle hint or a bolder statement.
Supply List: All necessary supplies provided in the cost of the class; participants are welcome to bring their favorite pens and colored pencils/chalk pencils if they wish.
Biography: Amy Broady, M.Ed., is a Certified Zentangle Teacher™ and a Veriditas-trained Labyrinth Facilitator. She began her career as a professional art educator in 1995. She has spent most of her school career teaching at the elementary level, but loves teaching adults just as much as she loves teaching children. She started practicing and teaching the Zentangle Method in 2010 to children in the school setting and adults in various community venues as well as at retreats and conferences; she has provided professional development to countless art educators at the local, state, and national levels. Amy is delighted that Zentangle permeates her personal and professional life, creatively, philosophically, and socially as she has made dear friends through her involvement with Zentangle. In 2022 she established her own tiny little art studio, Pen & Path, for helping others begin or progress on their creative journeys through mixed media adventures in Zentangle, labyrinths, and more. Amy doesn’t sell her artwork and rarely displays it in public venues, but derives great joy and satisfaction from her personal practice as well as teaching others.

Biography: Christian Freeman is an artist and Knoxville native with a BFA degree from the University of Tennessee. Having begun her career working with The Symphony Showcase Homes and Parade of Homes, she paints murals and custom finishes. She has completed countless residential and commercial projects, and has the ability to work on any scale, and within nearly any budget. Christian’s work is her passion, and she uses it to transform homes and businesses into aesthetically beautiful and better functioning spaces. One well known local mural she did was that of the lovely ladies in the windows at Patrick Sullivan’s, which were auctioned off several years back by Knox Heritage. Inspired by Toulouse Lautrec, she created the ladies of the night with fun line, lush color, and enticing energy. Christian is also an accomplished canvas painter and art instructor. Having taught privately, some of her students have gone on to win scholarships and show in galleries on their own.
