Thank you for your consideration. Your communication helps me continue offering these workshops and makes the experience better for everyone.

Class Content: A one‑day abstract painting experience designed for beginners and seasoned painters alike. In this workshop, students will explore creating expressive abstract work using a limited palette, layered techniques, and a variety of tools. We’ll focus on building depth, experimenting with mark‑making, and learning how to let intuition guide the painting process. Students may follow the suggested palette or choose their own colors. By the end of the day, each participant will have a finished or near‑finished abstract piece and a deeper understanding of how to build layers, create movement, and work confidently in an abstract style.

Supply List:

  • Acrylic paints in a limited palette:
    • 2 cool colors (examples: turquoise, ultramarine, phthalo blue, viridian)
    • 2 warm colors (examples: terra‑cotta, sienna, burnt umber, ochre, warm reds)
    • Black + White
    • Students may bring their own palette within this structure.
  • Canvas or painting surface
    • Suggested size 16×20, 18×24, or larger
    • Heavy watercolor paper or mixed‑media paper also works

Brushes + Tools

  • Assorted brushes (large flats, mediums, detail brushes)
  • Palette knives
  • Old credit cards / scrapers
  • Sponges or rags
  • Any experimental mark‑making tools students enjoy

Mediums + Extras

  • Matte medium or gel medium (optional for layering)
  • Spray bottle for water
  • Paper towels

Class Content: Shake things up in this playful, one-day painting class designed to help you loosen up, let go of fear, and reconnect with the joy of creating. Through simple exercises, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, you’ll explore approachable ways to get started, silence self-doubt, and paint with more freedom and spirit. We’ll begin by identifying the fears that can hold us back, then move into techniques that encourage experimentation, confidence, and creative discovery. Most of all, you’ll learn how much fun it can be to paint without fear.

Supply List: The instructor will supply everything you need for the class, including paints, dry media, and basic tools. Because watercolor and acrylic paints dry quickly, both will be available for use throughout the day. Dry media will include pencils, chalk, charcoal, and markers. Tools will include brushes, palette knives, sponges, silicone scrapers, branches, leaves, and—of course—your hands and fingers.

You may want to bring gloves and an apron for added comfort. If you have favorite supplies you enjoy using, feel free to bring them as well.

Biography: Lil Clinard is known for her watercolor, acrylic and encaustic paintings. She paints in both realistic and impressionistic styles and loves to experiment with her art often mixing media for fun and effect. She is best known for her landscapes, waterscapes and unusual approaches and techniques which she enjoys teaching and passing along to other artists. Lil’s paintings are in private and commercial collections and are available at her Tellico Village Studio.

Biography:

I use the canvas to tell the bold and sometimes very subtle abstract stories of movement.
Beginning with a loose composition and adding layer on layer,
my paintings naturally unfold and expose an intuitive dance.
These images capture the vibrant attitudes of the human heart.
Soaring Leaping Turning!

Ginger Oglesby, a native Southerner, began studying art in the 6th grade. Saturday mornings were spent in art class learning the fundamentals of drawing, color, composition and medium. In the summer, classes were moved outside for landscapes at Nashville’s Belle Meade Mansion. This continued all through high school under the tutelage of Juanita Green Parks, Director of Art, at Watkins Institute in Nashville, TN. Ginger’s education continued to be concentrated in creative endeavors. She received a BFA from the University of Tennessee in Studio Art with a minor in Dance. After college, Ginger’s first job was with a modern dance company, Sidewalk Dance Theater, where she was a member for ten years. Retiring from the dance company, Ginger missed the movement of dance so she poured movement into her paintings. Her work became more loose and free until they became pure abstraction.
