Class Content: This workshop focuses on understanding and artistically interpreting waves. Participants will explore color, shadow, reflection and movement while learning how to translate the energy and beauty of waves into paint. Using multiple photos as primary references, the instructor will provide demonstrations of both calm and crashing waves. Loads of individual guidance and tips will be given as participants complete two wave paintings of their own.

Supply List:

  • Paint: Watercolor or acrylic – a limited palette works best. If you are using watercolor, you may wish to bring frisket or resist for white areas or use white gouache.
  • Paper, panel or canvas: at least 2. I find a backer board helpful to tilt the painting to create runs.
  • Brushes: 2- or 3-inch hake or mop brush for washes and #8 flat and #10 round with a sharp point.
  • Palette or tray, pencil and notepad, water container, paper towels or rags.
  • You may also want to bring an apron and gloves — we will do some finger painting!
  • Bring any of your materials you enjoy using.

Biography: Lil Clinard has over 20 years’ experience painting with watermedia, primarily watercolor and acrylic. Her work focuses on landscapes and waterscapes, and she enjoys exploring a variety of techniques and materials. As an instructor she emphasizes experimentation and encourages artists to develop confidence and joy in their creative process. Her artwork has been exhibited in art shows and galleries and is included in both private and public collections.

Class Content: This class will introduce you to the foundational and expressive techniques of creating texture using brushes, palette knives, and piping bags. You’ll explore how to build dimensional surfaces with both professional-grade texture mediums and simple, effective homemade mixtures, learning how each material contributes its own character to sculptural artwork.

In the first half of class, we’ll study a range of texture types and practice controlled, guided exercises designed to build confidence and skill. During the second half, you’ll begin developing your own sculpted and textured piece, applying the techniques that resonate with your artistic vision.

By the end of class, you’ll leave with a partially completed artwork ready for finishing at home, a solid understanding of how to translate the textures in your source image onto canvas, and the confidence to continue experimenting with these versatile, tactile mediums.

Supply List: All supplies included.

Biography: Patricia Pasbrig is a contemporary realism artist celebrated for her richly textured mixed media paintings and sculptural gourds. Her artistic journey began in silence: after losing her hearing for twenty years, painting became her voice — a way to express emotions and stories that words could not convey.

Following her cochlear implant, Patricia regained her hearing and confidence, immersing herself in art classes, collaborations, and volunteer work at the Milan Art Institute. A pivotal encounter with a deaf and blind man, who recognized the subject of her painting through touch alone, inspired her lifelong passion for texture. Since then, she has developed a distinctive style she calls Contemporary Impressionism Realism, blending impressionistic light, realist detail, and abstract elements into tactile, multidimensional works.

Patricia’s career spans exhibitions at the Palm Room Gallery in Stuart, Florida, leadership as Treasurer of the Martin Artisans Guild, and the creation of a large-scale mural at Barbeque Beer Company. She has hosted Paint & Sip events, taught drawing and mixed media at the Hobe Sound Art League and earned awards for both her paintings and gourds.

Now based in Tennessee, Patricia continues to share her knowledge through commissioned works, teaching, and community engagement. Her art invites viewers not only to see, but to feel — bridging visual and tactile experience to evoke memory, nature, and human connection.

Class Content: Step into the world of collage! In this class you will construct your own mixed media artwork in two phases. First, you’ll create an abstract background collage, using a variety of collage papers, pencils, and acrylic paint. This will get the creative juices flowing by requiring you to think about color, shape, texture, composition and mark-making. Next, you’ll learn how to transfer black & white images directly onto the surface of your collages, using acrylic as the transfer medium. This step will transform your artwork into something truly personal and special. Come along and explore your creativity!
