Workshop Content: Have fun learning the fascinating painting technique of Watercolor Batik! Use melted wax and watercolor paints on a fibrous rice paper to create beautiful artwork with surprising and one of a kind results. Paint colorful poppies or create your own design and complete 1 or 2 watercolor batik paintings.
Class demonstrations along with individual guidance will be provided to encourage each artist with their own creative expression.
Rice papers, wax, melting pot, wax brushes, freezer paper and designs will be provided.

Biography: Martha Kisling has over thirty years experience painting in the exciting and spontaneous medium of watercolor. She also enjoys experimenting with acrylics, mixed media, collage and batik. She has taught painting classes and workshops while living in Colorado, South Carolina and now Tennessee and enjoys sharing her personal creative discoveries while encouraging students to develop their own artistic expression. Her original artwork has been exhibited in art shows and galleries around the country.

Class Content:
CitraSolv is a concentrated citrus cleanser and artistic tool. We will use CitraSolv on National Geographic magazines to create etched – like papers/ patterns to enhance with inks and/ or paint or cut up for collage work.
Shelley will bring several examples of her Citra Art works of Art to learn from. Students will have time to create their own works to take home.

Biography:
Shelley Mangold is a teaching artist, renting studio space in Knoxville’s Fourth and Gill neighborhood. She has a BA in Art from Adelphi University and a MS in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee. A long time potter and former public school elementary gifted education and art teacher, she now teaches adult mixed media and alcohol ink techniques. Her work has been shown and sold locally at The Emporium, Arts in the Airport, A1LabArts, Fountain City Art Center, TVUU Church, and Broadway Studios.

Class Content: Come have some fun!
For Beginners or Intermediates, come and enjoy a day of fun with Color and learn a new technique in art. This class will be hands-on, first learning some techniques and how to use our tools. Then, we will create this fun picture to take home.
We plan to explore colored pencils in a new way. Using this as a color medium we will be color-building, scratching, and learning the best techniques to achieve what we want with our tools on film to create this fun and expressive betta fish.

Biography: Glenda Bowles has over 30 years of experience in the Arts and nearly this in teaching. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tennessee Knoxville specializing in watercolor. She furthered her education at the University of Tennessee with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and then went on to receive a Certificate in Counseling in Saint Louis Missouri. She has taught for 25 over years to affluent and impoverished students, over a range of ages – from 4 years old to adults, including art therapy. With her extensive experience teaching domestically and abroad, she brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to any classroom. She focuses on core technical skill building, art history, and art theory, as well as instructing in multiple art mediums in the classroom. She enjoys just about every medium of Art that is out there. Presently, she is creating art in watercolor, pen and ink, oils, acrylic, gouache, and graphite predominantly.
She has exhibited her artwork in numerous settings from Fine Arts shows and sales including the Brentwood Academy show in Nashville, Memphis College of Art, the Knoxville Museum of Art, the Emporium, and in smaller settings in Knoxville and Morristown. She is a part of the Tennessee Artist Associations Studio 106 at the Emporium in Knoxville. She has a permanent exhibit of murals in Knoxville as well as in Greece, Belize, and Jordan. She has lived cross-culturally, which has brought such a deeper love for this world. She loves to be outdoors on warm days, especially in her kayak or on her bike.
