Class Content: You will LOVE playing in 3D with plaster and it makes a great, unique decor piece or gift! Using precast molds and provided tools, you will create 3 pieces similar to the viewed pieces. You can use them as guidelines and I can help you make changes to make it your own. The flowers are precast pieces that I will have ready for you so you do not have to shape those by hand.

We will attach the precast flowers, you will learn how to mold and shape the lose plaster mix- into anything you desire. I will have everything you need and show you how to use tools to make it simple. I will have some stencils to use as well for background texturing. Every piece is different!

You will create 3 pieces in this class: 1- 12×18 panel, 1- 11×14 panel and 1- 8×8 panel.

This class will teach you the techniques so that if you want to do a larger version of this on your home wall, you will be able to do it!

I will demonstrate each step, explain the basics, and give you time to work. I walk around and assist each student as needed. We will break for lunch around noon but will stay in the class for lunch so we can chat and answer questions.

I will have your panels prepared although you will do the third smaller one yourself so you learn the technique.

You Will Learn:

  • How to prepare a surface for receiving the plaster mix
  • Learn how to mix the plaster to the right consistency
  • How to add hanging wire to your panel
  • How to pour molds and attach your molds to your project
  • How to lay down a layer of plaster on your panel and use tools to texture or smooth it
  • How to color or glaze your finished piece
  • The techniques to prepare you to do larger versions if desired.

PLEASE PACK A LUNCH… Our lunch break will be short so we can finish our work each day.

Supply List: ***ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED! Just bring yourself, your lunch and an apron or clothes that can get messy.

Biography: Tennessee artist Carol Robin King was born and raised in Argentina where she discovered her love for drawing at the tender age of 3. At 13, Carol advanced from drawing to painting with oils and acrylics. While in Argentina, she attended 3 years of professional Art School. She loves continuing to learn and perfect her techniques through workshops and online classes. Art has always been a part of Carol’s life. She made extra money selling paintings as a child and painting portraits in college. Throughout the last 30 years, she has had the privilege of teaching art classes for children, teens, and adults. Carol also captures attention with her 3D wall sculptures. Working with cast stone and gypsum, these dimensional bas relief works not only catch the eye but awaken the senses as the shapes emerge – revealed by reflected light.

“Quiet times, pleasant memories and peaceful places are what I strive to capture in my art to bring the viewer a moment of peace in a hectic day or a pleasant memory to lift their spirit.” Current projects are providing online video Watercolor lessons, teaching acrylic online and in person classes around the Knoxville area. Carol’s work can be seen at various locations around Knoxville and at the Townsend Art Center in Townsend, TN.

Class Content: Join us for an engaging and informative workshop titled “Tools and Techniques,” where you will have the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic methods and tools. This workshop is designed to inspire creativity and enhance your skills, regardless of your experience level.

In this session, I will demonstrate different techniques using an array of tools, providing valuable insights into each method. Following the demonstration, participants will have dedicated time to practice these techniques. Please note, this workshop is not focused on creating a finished painting to take home. Instead, you are encouraged to bring along practice canvases or, if you’re feeling adventurous, take the plunge on a larger canvas.

This experience is all about experimentation and growth, allowing you to push your boundaries and discover new ways to express yourself. Whether you’re a beginner eager to learn or an experienced artist looking to refresh your skills, you’ll find inspiration and guidance in this supportive environment. All skill levels are welcome!

Supply List: Please bring any materials and paint you would like to use. Below are some suggestions for acrylic paint colors.

This workshop focuses on inspiration and practice, rather than completing a piece. I recommend using canvas boards for this workshop, as they are easier for exploration and practice any size you are comfortable with will work. You won’t feel as though it’s too precious to experiment on. You can find canvas boards online or at any hobby store, often in inexpensive bundles.

Biography: Catron is a full-time abstract artist with over 30 years of experience. In 2020, she was honored to be named Nashville Art Creator of the Year by Nashville Lifestyle Magazine. Her work has been showcased in more than twelve galleries across the southeast and featured in corporate and residential settings throughout the US. Throughout her career, She has been interviewed and featured in various magazines, TV, and radio shows, including HGTV, PBS, Nashville Lifestyle, and Legends magazines. Catron was also voted to participate in the Art Wall for the AT&T building in downtown Nashville. The Christmas day bombing destroyed the wall, but it couldn’t destroy her spirit. In response, the Color Nashville Art Project invited her and other local artists to participate in painting joyful scenes over the boarded-up windows, bringing
beauty and hope to the affected area.

Recently, in addition to her time creating at the easel, Catron has enjoyed leading painting soirees for corporate events and private parties. These events provide a safe and enjoyable environment for both painters and non-painters to have fun and create something unique and personal.

Class Content: You will learn to create a painting on 100% wool felt, with wool as your paints and barbed, specialized needles as your brushes. Needle felting involves coaxing wool where you want it to go with the barbed, felting needles. The poking causes friction and friction causes the scales on wool fibers to knit together. You will be provided a transfer of my own drawing to copy onto your wool backing. So, no need for drawing skills. You will learn to make thin lines in your work and add highlights among other techniques. All your supplies are provided to create your fall needle felted painting. The completed painting will fit into a standard 12 in by 12 in square frame and a matt that can be bought at Michael’s. There is no need for glass. Wool repels dust. All you need to bring is a lunch and your enthusiasm! I think you will find this a relaxing medium.

Supply List: All supplies included!

I have taught mixed media for several years in the Tellico Village Art Guild as well as an AGTV member. I started needle felting 7 years ago. I have taught needle felting for the past 4 years. I’m always looking for a like-minded fiber art community.
