Class Content: We will spend the day making landscapes from a photograph you bring by crumpling up tissue paper and gluing it to our canvas. We will then layer with acrylics and oil pastels to create beautifully textured paintings. This class is all about layering papers, paint, and color. Chance and accident will be our friends!

Supply List: Canvas or 2 along with a water cup, rags, and some brushes. May have items to use in the art closet. Please do NOT forget a picture of the landscape you choose to create. I will furnish, tissue, glue, and oil pastel.

Biography: Christian Freeman is an artist and Knoxville native with a BFA degree from the University of Tennessee. She began her career working with the Symphony Showcase Homes and Parade of Homes, and paints murals and custom finishes. She has completed countless residential and commercial projects, and has the ability to work on any scale, and within nearly any budget. Christian’s work is her passion, and she uses it to transform homes and businesses into aesthetically beautiful and better functioning spaces. One well-known local mural she did was that of the lovely ladies in the windows at Patrick Sullivan’s, which were auctioned off several years back by Knox Heritage. Inspired by Toulouse Lautrec, she created the ladies of the night with fun line, lush color, and enticing energy. Christian is also an accomplished canvas painter and instructor.

Having taught privately, some of her students have gone on to win scholarships and show in galleries on their own. Christian has recently made Lenior City her home and is continuing to create, teach, and consult locally and beyond.

Class Content: Step into the world of collage! In this class you will construct your own mixed media artwork in two phases. First, you’ll create an abstract background collage, using a variety of collage papers, pencils, and acrylic paint. This will get the creative juices flowing by requiring you to think about color, shape, texture, composition and mark-making. Next, you’ll learn how to transfer black & white images directly onto the surface of your collages, using acrylic as the transfer medium. This step will transform your artwork into something truly personal and special.

Supply List: All supplies are provided, however students are encouraged to bring their own images and some collage material (see linked supply list for full description)

Biography: Pamela comes from a science background, but has always had a keen interest in art, taking a variety of workshops and courses in different media over the years. She studied for two years with the Open College of the Arts, based in the UK, before becoming a juried member of Knoxville’s Art Market Gallery in 2017. Her work has been accepted into a number of juried exhibitions, including the Arts and Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition, Arts in the Airport at McGhee Tyson Airport, The District Gallery’s “The Big Tiny Show”, the Oak Ridge Art Center’s Open Show, and the Plateau Art Guild Open Show.
