Biography: Christian Freeman is an artist and Knoxville native with a BFA degree from the University of Tennessee. Having begun her career working with The Symphony Showcase Homes and Parade of Homes, she paints murals and custom finishes. She has completed countless residential and commercial projects, and has the ability to work on any scale, and within nearly any budget. Christian’s work is her passion, and she uses it to transform homes and businesses into aesthetically beautiful and better functioning spaces. One well known local mural she did was that of the lovely ladies in the windows at Patrick Sullivan’s, which were auctioned off several years back by Knox Heritage. Inspired by Toulouse Lautrec, she created the ladies of the night with fun line, lush color, and enticing energy. Christian is also an accomplished canvas painter and art instructor. Having taught privately, some of her students have gone on to win scholarships and show in galleries on their own. Christian has recently made Lenior City, Tennessee her home and is continuing to create, teach, and consult locally and beyond.

Class Content: Image transfers can add layers and dimension to your mixed media projects, making them more exciting, interesting and personal. In this class, we will learn a few different techniques for transferring a variety of images onto mixed media surfaces. We’ll start by preparing the mixed media backgrounds, then transfer images using direct, gelli plate, and solvent transfer methods. Each of these techniques will produce different results, which will add to the creative choices that you have for your mixed media designs.
Supply List: All supplies are provided. You may want to bring your own laser printed or photocopied (i.e., toner based, NOT inkjet) images in various sizes to use for transfers. High contrast images will work best — black & white or color can be used. I will also bring a selection in case anyone forgets.
We will make basic background mixed media surfaces to use and practice on, but if you have anything pre-prepared that you would like to use, bring those along, too.
Please bring your own apron. We will be working with acrylics, which are unforgiving if they get on your clothing.
Biography: I come from a Chemistry and Geology background, but have always had a keen interest in art, and have taken a variety of workshops and classes in different media over the years. In 2015, I was able to take the plunge into art full-time, studying for two years with the Open College of the Arts (based in the UK) before being juried in as a member of the Art Market Gallery in Knoxville in late 2017. My work has been accepted into a number of juried exhibitions in the Knoxville area, including the Arts & Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition (2020, 2023), Arts in the Airport at McGhee Tyson Airport (2020, 2021, 2023, 2024), The District Gallery’s “The Big Tiny Show” Exhibition (2022, 2023, 2024), and the Arts & Culture Alliance’s “No Bigger than a Breadbox” Exhibition (2021, 2023, 2024). I have also exhibited works locally in Knoxville at the Marble Alley Lofts, the Emporium Gallery, the Mayor’s offices, and Post Modern Spirits, and became a juried member of the Foothills Craft Guild in 2023.
