Class Content: You will LOVE playing in 3D with plaster and it makes a great, unique gift! This class is a beginner introduction to the world of Plaster Relief. The sample looks complex,  but really isn’t and you can put as many or as few elements in it as you want.  I will also have other holiday related items like Santa and Sleigh, cute snowmen, ornaments, etc to make whatever you want.   I pre-made the elements from molds so you do not have to carve the detail into anything, but just arrange the pieces to your liking and I will show you how to create some background elements if you like. Every piece is different!

You will create 2 pieces in this class: Both are holiday themed and would make a great gift for that hard to shop for friend! You will create a 11×14 Christmas Village panel and a 8×8 ornament 3d relief. small tropical leaf simpler panel. Plaster is a very fun media to work with and grants exceptional results.
In this beginner class, the hard part has been pre-done for you so you can walk away with a very nice 3d holiday themed piece of art that will WOW your friends!

I will Demonstrate each step and explain it as I go and then break so you can work on that step. I walk around and assist each student as needed. We will break for lunch around noon but will stay in the class for lunch so we can chat and answer questions.

I will have your panels prepared and dozens of pre-made molded ocean pieces so you can choose your favorites and position them as you like. Everyone’s piece will be unique and special since you choose which pieces you want and where to position them. I will have many more elements than you see in the class image as well so you can create your own underwater world. If we have extra time, we will also create a simple leaf print relief as a 3rd project during drying times of the other panels.

You Will Learn:
* How to prepare a surface for attaching plaster molded pieces (yours will be prepared in advance for time constraints)
* Learn to use molds to make 3d elements
* How to add Hanging Wire to your panel
* How to Lay down a layer of plaster on your panel and use tools to give the impression of water
* How to attach pre-made plaster elements to your panel
* Learn to use stencils to make unique 3D enhanced pieces of art
* Mix plaster to the right consistency for shaping and attaching your molds
* How to use cake decorating tips to add elements to your panel
* How to color or glaze your finished piece

PLEASE PACK A LUNCH… Our lunch break will be short so we can finish our work in one day.

Supply List: ***ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED! Just bring yourself, your lunch and an apron or clothes that can get messy.

Biography: Tennessee artist Carol Robin King was born and raised in Argentina where she discovered her love for drawing at the tender age of 3. At 13, Carol advanced from drawing to painting with oils and acrylics. While in Argentina, she attended 3 years of professional Art School. She loves continuing to learn and perfect her techniques through workshops and online classes. Art has always been a part of Carol’s life. She made extra money selling paintings as a child and painting portraits in college. Throughout the last 30 years, she has had the privilege of teaching art classes for children and teens as well as adults. Carol also captures attention with her 3D wall sculptures. Working with cast stone and gypsum, these dimensional bas relief works not only catch the eye but awaken the senses as the shapes emerge – revealed by reflected light.

“Quiet times, pleasant memories and peaceful places are what I strive to capture in my art to bring the viewer a moment of peace in a hectic day or a pleasant memory to lift their spirit.” Current projects are recording online video Watercolor lessons, teaching acrylic classes and working at the shared Studio 106 located inside the Emporium in the downtown Knoxville art district. Her work can also be found at Pivot Point Gallery in Knoxville and she just opened a gallery with a couple other artists in Gatlinburg Tennessee in the Morning Mist Village on Glades Road. We hope you can stop by and visit at one of these locations!

Biography: Christian Freeman is an artist and Knoxville native with a BFA degree from the University of Tennessee. Having begun her career working with The Symphony Showcase Homes and Parade of Homes, she paints murals and custom finishes. She has completed countless residential and commercial projects, and has the ability to work on any scale, and within nearly any budget. Christian’s work is her passion, and she uses it to transform homes and businesses into aesthetically beautiful and better functioning spaces. One well-known local mural she did was that of the lovely ladies in the windows at Patrick Sullivan’s, which were auctioned off several years back by Knox Heritage. Inspired by Toulouse Lautrec, she created the ladies of the night with fun line, lush color, and enticing energy. Christian is also an accomplished canvas painter and art instructor. Having taught privately, some of her students have gone on to win scholarships and show in galleries on their own.
