Workshop Content: More Than a View: Painting Tellico Waters
This two-session workshop invites participants to explore creative ways to paint lake scenes, celebrate the rich history of Tellico Village, and the deep blessing of living near a beautiful and storied body of water. Attendees will leave with both new painting skills, and a sense of clarity of soul, and gratitude for their unique surroundings.
The objective will be to inspire the participants to paint lake scenes that go beyond realism, incorporating mood, texture, emotion and story. I will introduce simple techniques that build confidence for beginner and intermediate artist. I will weave in the participants “fleeting, immediate, raw emotion, ie “FIRE”, as we incorporate Tellico’s rich history. I will encourage the participants to access their own stories, and embrace imperfection, finding joy in the creative process.
Supply List: Acrylic paints in muted blues, soft greens, and earthy neutrals. Textural tools such as palette knives or old plastic gift cards or sponges. Small canvas boards or gessoed watercolor papers (5 x 7) for studies, and larger canvas boards or prepared watercolor papers (9 x 12, for example) for final paintings. Rags, brushes, and spray bottles for textural techniques.

Wildlife Photography – Artistic Photography of Wildlife from around the World
Jan Muir has been creating intimate portraits of wildlife in remote locations. She will share her art, favorite locations, adventure stories, and some simple tips to bring your own photographic vision to life.
Artist Bio: On the Edge of Wild
From the glitter of Las Vegas to the whispers of the Smoky Mountains, my art travels between urban pulse and serene wild song. My experiences touch each artwork and become a testament to the cultural vibrancy and untamed beauty that inspire me. From remote glaciers to bustling foreign festivals, each experience adds a vibrant thread to my artistic tapestry. Through my art, I strive to connect each of us to the majesty of nature and the diversity of culture, to ignite a passion for preserving our planet’s uniqueness and wonder.
Nature is my constant muse. It whispers to me, and I translate its voice into visual stories using photos, glass, ceramics, and paint. Each medium, in different ways, allows me to express the awe, the fragility, the resilience of our planet.
My artwork is always evolving and experimentation is my companion. Molten glass is coaxed into swirling orbs and becomes a frozen echo of sunlit waves crashing on distant shores. Clay, my ancient teacher, whispers stories of mountain ranges weathered by the winds of time, each crack and crevice a testament to resilience and beauty. Pigments, vibrant emissaries from faraway bazaars, remind me of the uniqueness and fragility of our shared humanity. Through these diverse mediums, I strive not only to capture the awe-inspiring grandeur of nature but also to ignite a sense of compassion, a call to protect the wild spaces that sustain us all. Each piece invites you to walk with me, to step beyond the familiar and embrace the exquisite dance of wonder that unfolds around us each and every day.
I invite you to step closer to both listen to the whispers of nature, and to see the vibrant cultural threads that weave us all together. Welcome to my journey. Please walk with me.

Biography: Shelley Mangold is a teaching artist, renting studio space in Knoxville’s Fourth and Gill neighborhood. She has a BA in Art from Adelphi University and an MS in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee. A long-time potter and former public school elementary gifted education and art teacher, she now teaches adult mixed media and alcohol ink techniques. Her work has been shown and sold locally at The Emporium, Arts in the Airport, A1LabArts, Fountain City Art Center, TVUU Church, and Broadway Studios and Gallery.
My current work reflects my diverse interests, which lends itself to my combination of painting, printmaking and collage. Using one or more of these techniques: alcohol ink painting, citra etching papers, rusted papers; I create my own papers. These papers along with occasional found objects and natural ephemera become my palette.
