Art Journaling – A Journey in Mixed Media

Art Guild of Tellico Village

Meets every month:

4th Friday, 1 – 4 pm

$5.00 per class

Chota Room A

Art journaling is a mixed media art opportunity. Have fun with others while learning to play in paint, collage, and fun mixed media techniques.

In this class we try new techniques with paints, pens, papers, stencils and other tools. We use an art journal as a place to capture these new techniques so you will be able to refer back to them in the future. The goal is not to create a finished piece of art, but rather have a place to experiment and try new techniques. There is no right or wrong way to do this. We share ideas, paint, talk and relax. This class is for newbies to advanced artists because it will make you happy.

The class supply list:

  • Acrylic paints and brushes
  • Markers and pens of your choice which might include markers, paint pens and gel pens
  • Art journal* with mixed media or acrylic paper (Mixed media paper will work too)
  • Optionally: Stencils, stamps & handmade or scrapbooking papers to cut up
  • Bring water container and paper towels, apron recommended

*We recommend using an art journal as a place to try new things and remember what you have done, but acrylic or mixed media paper will work too. Look for art journals specifically for painting by Canson, Grumbacher, Strathmore etc with the heavier weight paper ( 90# or 140#) which are widely available at major retailers.

Covid protocol: AGTV recommends wearing a face mask when social distancing isn’t possible.

Please RSVP: Text Pam George at 563-940-8169 no later than the day prior to class so she knows how to set up the room

Please email Pam George to join the email list for this fun group: pamelasgeorge@gmail.com .

Artist Trading Card Exchange

Art Guild of Tellico Village

Want to get involved in making and trading art without a huge commitment? Join our Artist trading card exchange program. An artist trading card is a small work of art (2.5 x 3.5) size that you make with the materials of your choice (Paint, pens, markers, pencils etc.) in any style you wish. Every month there will be a theme as a prompt for you to follow.

The Deadline for cards is the 20th of each month. For the first part of 2022 the themes are as follows:

  • January (deadline 1/20)-Winter/Snow
  • February (deadline 2/20)-Color Red/Love/Hearts
  • March (deadline 3/20)-Color Green or Rainbows
  • April (deadline 4/20)-Rain/Spring
  • May (deadline 5/20)-Flowers or Artists Choice

There are some wonderful lessons and examples of Artist trading cards at YouTube by the following artists: Susane Rose Art, Cat Hand, Maremi small art, and Barb Owen. Check out their videos for fun ideas.

ATCs can be acquired at online retailers, from Cathie Salvo, or you can make your own (2.5″ x 3.5″) from your favorite papers. No sign-up is required! Members who wish to participate should mail their ATC to Cathie Salvo or drop it off in the designated box on her front porch at 116 Wewoka Way Loudon, TN 37774.

On the back of the ATC please add your name and date, and optionally a title/notes. Please return your painted cards with a self-addressed stamped envelope so she can send your exchange cards to you. After the deadline, Cathie will mail an ATC to each person who dropped one off. If you send in multiple ATC you will receive the same number in return. For blank ATC cards or for questions please contact Cathie at cas@cjsal.com or at 209-352-3908.
