Biography: Carol Robin King is an artist and teacher with a lifelong love of art. My journey began raised as the daughter of missionaries in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where as early as the age of 3 my mom said art was the only thing that could get me to sit still!

In Argentina, art is heavily interwoven into school curriculum, so it was the perfect place to fuel my creative spark. After three years at a professional art school there, I moved to the U.S. for college and continued to find ways to make art a part of my world including painting portraits for a little extra cash.

Teaching has always been close to my heart. I’ve been sharing my passion for painting for over 20 years, starting out teaching kids in homeschool co-ops. Now I’m lucky enough to teach in-person classes at seven different locations, including a gallery, local art store and a College Lifelong Learning program.

My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe that art should be fun and stress-free. I’m a patient and encouraging teacher who wants everyone to feel confident and relaxed in their art journey. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to explore new techniques, My mission is to guide you step by step in a friendly, supportive environment.

No matter your experience level, you’re welcome in my classes—and I can’t wait to help you discover your Inner Artist!

Cost: $ 75
Class Size: Min 6 Max 20

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 14 days prior to the start of the class for a full refund. There will be no refunds within 14 days of the class unless spot can be filled from wait list. To cancel, fill out the class refund request form

Class Content: This workshop is about painting — not overthinking.

From First Mark to Finished is a paint-forward, immersive day designed to help you move confidently through an entire painting process, from the very first brushstroke to knowing when a piece is complete.

Rather than teaching you how to paint like me, I’ll guide you in discovering how you paint best. Through short demos, prompts, and plenty of studio time, you’ll learn how to begin without hesitation, stay engaged without overworking, and make decisions that feel true to your own voice.

This is not about perfection or formulas. It’s about momentum, trust, and learning how to finish a painting with intention instead of doubt.

Expect a supportive atmosphere, clear guidance, and lots of time at the easel. You’ll leave with completed work, renewed confidence, and a deeper understanding of your personal painting rhythm.

All levels welcome.

Supply List: Suggested Supplies to Bring (Bring what you have — you do not need everything on this list.)

  • Acrylic paint (a limited palette is perfect)
  • 2–3 paint brushes you love
  • One larger brush for loose work
  • Canvas, panel, or paper (bring 2–3 if possible)
  • Palette (disposable or reusable)
  • Water containerPaper towels or rags

Biography: Catron Wallace is a Nashville-based abstract painter whose work blends intuition, movement, and color into compositions that feel both organic and architectural. With over 30 years of professional practice, Wallace has developed a refined visual language rooted in rhythm, emotion, and the quiet power of simplicity.

Her paintings are known for their dynamic layers, luminous palettes, and the sense of grounded energy they bring to contemporary interiors. Each piece is built through a process of physical engagement — gestures, markings, and subtle shifts that echo the landscapes, seasons, and internal worlds she moves through.

Throughout her career, Wallace has exhibited across the Southeast and has placed work in private collections, designer-curated homes, and boutique gallery spaces. She maintains a steady studio practice and continues to evolve her work with a deep respect for craft and a commitment to authenticity.

Driven by a lifelong dedication to creativity, Wallace approaches each canvas as an invitation — to pause, breathe, and experience a moment of clarity. Her work resonates with collectors seeking art that is both visually striking and emotionally grounding.

Class Content: Great painting doesn’t begin with technique — it begins with perception.

In this immersive one-day workshop, artist Catron Wallace guides you through how artists actually see: light and shadow, visual hierarchy, relationships, mood, and simplification. Rather than copying what’s in front of you or trying to paint “correctly,” you’ll learn how to recognize what truly matters to your eye — and how to translate that into confident, personal work.

This workshop is highly interactive and designed for artists of all levels. Through short demonstrations, guided exercises, and group discussion, you’ll strengthen your visual instincts, quiet overthinking, and build trust in your own creative decision-making.

Catron’s teaching philosophy is simple:

I’m not teaching you how to paint like me — I’m helping you learn how to paint like you.

You’ll leave with:

  • A stronger understanding of how to simplify what you see
  • Greater confidence in visual choices and composition
  • Tools for seeing light, contrast, and emphasis more clearly
  • Renewed creative energy and clarity
  • A deeper connection to your own artistic voice

Whether you’re returning to your practice or ready to deepen it, this workshop offers a fresh, thoughtful way to experience painting.

All skill levels welcome.

Supply List:

  • Sketchbook or loose paper
  • Pencil or charcoal
  • One black marker or Sharpie

260116 Beyond Balance: Exploring Composition in Abstract Art with Catron Wallace

Art Guild of Tellico Village

Dates: Friday, January 16, 2026
Time: 10:00am – 3:30pm
Location: Chota Classroom A

Prerequisites: None

Contact Information: catronart@gmail.com

Cost: $ 75
Class Size: Min 6 Max 15
Sign-up: Registration is closed. Contact Catron to see if you can be added to the class.
Deadline: January 2, 2026

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 14 days prior to the start of the class for a full refund. There will be no refunds within 14 days of the class unless spot can be filled from wait list. To cancel, fill out the class refund request form

Class Content: Composition is the quiet architecture behind every compelling abstract painting — the invisible structure that creates movement, tension, and emotional clarity. Beyond Balance: Exploring Composition in Abstract Painting is a full-day, studio-style workshop designed as an intensive practice and study experience, rather than a finished-painting class.

Led by artist Catron Wallace, this workshop focuses on how composition functions in abstraction through exploration, repetition, and thoughtful experimentation. Participants will work through a series of guided exercises, quick studies, and compositional challenges that sharpen visual awareness and strengthen decision-making skills. The emphasis is on seeing differently, learning how to recognize balance, rhythm, and flow, and developing the confidence to make intentional choices in abstract work.

The day alternates between live demonstrations and hands-on challenges. Participants will explore movement, focal points, negative space, and visual tension; experiment with breaking compositional “rules” on purpose; and practice finding structure within loose, intuitive beginnings. Techniques such as rotating the surface, cropping to reveal hidden compositions, and working from gesture, sound, or emotion will be used to push beyond habitual approaches.

This workshop is ideal for artists who want to:

  • Deepen their understanding of abstract composition without relying on formulas
  • Strengthen intuition through repetition and study
  • Refresh their creative process and loosen perfectionism
  • Build a stronger foundation for future, more resolved work

Participants will leave with multiple studies, sketches, and visual notes — along with a clearer internal sense of how composition supports their individual artistic voice. This class is best suited for artists who value process over product and want to invest in long-term growth.

Supply List: Bring whatever you already have — seriously.

  • Acrylic paints you like (no “perfect” colors needed)
  • Any brushes or tools you enjoy using (or abusing — palette knives, old cards, etc.)
  • Practice surfaces that aren’t precious, like:
    • Canvas boards
    • Heavy-duty watercolor or mixed media paper
    • Small canvas multi-packs from Michael’s (perfect for experimenting)

We’ll be working fast, making bold choices, and probably changing our minds — so save the fancy stuff for another day 😉
