240507 Soul Collage: Creating Dreamscapes for Higher Wisdom with Kathy Payne

Art Guild of Tellico Village

Dates: Rescheduled from January 4 to May 7, 2024

Prerequisites: None

Contact Information: reachkpayne@gmail.com

Cost: $60
Class Size: Min 8 Max 18

If you are unable to make the rescheduled date of May 7, please submit the class refund request form.
Deadline: December 16, 2023

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 14 days prior to the start of the Class. There will be no refunds within 14 days of the class. If AGTV or the instructor cancels the class, participants will get a full refund. To cancel, fill out the class refund request form

Class Content: Kick start 2024 with a deep dive into the Subconscious! Have you ever had a dream that opened your world — untangling a difficult situation, explaining a complex emotion, or pointing to a better path? Our Soul communicates with us through intuition, imagery, story, and symbols — making artwork and dreamwork treasure troves for higher guidance.

Learn how to use collage to unlock the wisdom of the subconscious mind and discover the gifts that accompany this contemplative practice. Using randomly selected images from magazines, you’ll quickly construct a series of dreamscapes loaded with personal messages and instructive symbols.

Learn to:

• Use a simple meditation practice to relax the mind and activate higher wisdom

• Intuitively select images, assemble a story, and collage dreamscapes with subtle meaning

• Decode the imagery in your dreamscapes to reveal their innate guidance

• Rekindle the connection to your unconscious and subconscious mind through art

• Use imagery to gain clarity on challenges or opportunities

• Unleash creativity and overcome blockages for greater well-being

If you can cut and paste and have a thirst for exploring your inner realm, this class is for you! No art experience is necessary. In fact, we don’t even care if our artwork is pretty, because we will be mining for meaning more than beauty. So, let loose! You will have an opportunity to produce and interpret three 5 x 8 dreamscapes.

Supply List: Bring your own scissors! I will provide the rest of the materials (substrates, glue, magazines, and protective sleeves)

Biography: I love to create with paper — cut, torn, sliced, ripped, painted, and reassembled. I am particularly drawn to the imagery and malleable nature of magazines and painted papers. Images originally meant to convey one message in a magazine can be used to communicate something entirely new in a work of art. An automobile advertisement might become part of a face. A face might become part of an abstract image. Disparate images can be used to tell a story or to extract personal meaning. Discovering hidden images embedded in collage creates a mystery that I simply can’t resist! I have been collaging for 15 years and never grow tired of it. Come explore with me.

Biography: Ginger Oglesby, a native Southerner, began studying art in the 6th grade. Saturday mornings were spent in art class learning the fundamentals of drawing, color, composition and medium. Ginger’s education continued to concentrate on creative endeavors. She received a BFA from the University of Tennessee in Studio Art with a minor in Dance. After college, Ginger’s first job was with a modern dance company, Sidewalk Dance Theater, where she was a member for ten years. Retiring from the dance company, Ginger missed the movement of dance, so she poured movement into her paintings. Her work became looser and freer until they became pure abstraction.
Artist Statement: “I love the way the world moves around me. Its beauty and vitality inspire me. My abstracts give visual life to the emotion, knowledge, and energy that I feel. Painting is a very physical process for me. I try to keep the painting open to all possibilities as I move around the canvas with marks, patterns, textures, and colors. I begin with a loose gestural composition and add layer on layer. I am open to all possibilities where its outcome is not yet known, and anything can happen. I use the canvas to tell bold and sometimes very subtle abstract stories of movement. My paintings naturally unfold and expose an intuitive dance. These images capture the vibrant attitudes of the human heart. Soaring, Leaping, Turning!”
